St. Lawrence, Bradfield

BRADFIELD (St. Lawrence) has a 13th. century west tower, with lancet openings, and later diagonal buttresss. The nave dates from the 13th. century, and has renewed paired lancet windows. The transepts are from the 19th century. Unfortunately, the whole of the exterior has been cemented.

The Font is octagonal, of Purbeck Marble dating back to the 13th. century, and has two shallow blank pointed arches on each side of bowl. The Pulpit is from the 18th. century, but has earlier panels from the 16th. and 17th. centuries, one of which is a relief of Crucifixion. The Helm in the chancel is 16th. century, and the Plate comprises a 17th. century Cup.

The Monumentsinclude a Brass in memory of Joane Risbye who died in 1598. The figure is about 3ft. tall. Another memorial, by Chantrey is that of Elizabeth Agassiz. It is undated, and depicts a female figure, kneeling and mourning.
